Abstract

The interrogative mood is employed by poets use to express their thoughts to emotionally engage their audience. This includes literal and rhetorical questions. Through rhetorical questions, poets convey metaphorical meanings that are perceived through the context, be they intellectual, social, or psychological. This article addresses the linguistic features of Ehud Manor’s poetry as manifested in the different types of interrogatives and their rhetorical signification a selection of his poems. It also explores how far this mood successfully convey the metaphorical denotations embodied in Manor’s poems, including wistfulness, regret, denouncement, impatience, nostalgic yearning, and exclamation, knowing that Mano’s life largely reflects in his poetry.
