Abstract

Recently, there was a subjective way in handling the image of the illegal immigrant in Italy. Trying to screen an objective image of this immigrant, the research aimed to composing a comprehensive idea of the phenomenon of illegal immigration (clandestinity) there. The researcher uses the comparative approach in analyzing this image to discuss "L'opposta riva", the work of Fabiano Alborghetti, comparing it with other writings in Italy. The research concluded that the dimensions of the illegal migrant image in Alborghetti’s work differ from others in social media in Italy. The researcher finds the illegal immigrant in the literary text under study forced to emigrate because he is a victim of social or political unstable conditions in his country, after arriving to Italy, he suffers from discrimination and exploitation due to his illegal status. In the same time, we find him portrayed in the media as a perpetrator then being accused of spreading chaos.
