Abstract

The aim of this article is to analyze Arab and Islamic culture in Sprig of Mint (2001) by Gerardo Muñoz Lorente. In this work I will shed light on the writer's approach and way of presenting the rites, traditions, and customs of Moroccan society, such as: arranged marriage, polygamy, the veil, the head of the family, wedding celebrations, the henna night. From a multi-perspective, the Spanish writer aims to reflect the Arab and Islamic identity and culture in general and that of the Moroccan Riffian Muslim and his religiosity, using cinematographic technique. I will also emphasize some of the most outstanding features of the Arabic language and the vocabulary that stands out in the Moroccan dialect used by the characters in this narrative work due to the lack, in some cases, of exact equivalents of certain terms in the Spanish language and to give the story greater realism.
