Abstract

Translators have two approaches to adopt in the translation process. If the text to be translated has a direct equivalent in the target language in terms of similarity in structure, semantics, and vocabulary order, then the translation is carried out using the direct translation strategy, which requires minimal change from one language to another. Borrowing is one of its most important elements.
Borrowing is a common translation technique, particularly in the diplomatic field, which is characterized by precise and sensitive terminology. The importance of this technique is evident when dealing with diplomatic and legal texts, which require preserving their original concepts without distortion. This research aims to study the phenomenon of borrowing in diplomatic translation, in its various forms: direct, indirect, full, and partial borrowing, by analyzing selected examples of international conventions published in the Turkish Official Gazette
