Abstract

This research focuses on the semantics present in the style of the Turkish writer Rıfat Ilgaz through his novel *Karartma Geceleri* (Nights of Blackout). The author used synonyms and antonyms to reinforce, clarify, and highlight the meaning, which indicates the strength of his language and his extensive vocabulary. He also used compound words by blending two words to create a new concept through morphology. In addition, he employed idiomatic expressions and popular sayings that convey figurative meanings and offer engaging expressive features that attract readers and add beauty and depth to the meaning. He did not neglect colloquial words used in street language, thus addressing all social classes through his language. Furthermore, he frequently used repetition of words and sentences in his novel, which serves as a tool for textual coherence and stylistic consistency. He also borrowed many words from other languages such as Arabic, Persian, French, and others, reflecting the influence of foreign languages on his own language and the expansion of his linguistic wealth. All of these elements were analyzed using the descriptive-analytical method.
