Abstract

This paper addresses the semantic and syntactic aspects of comparative sentences for purposes of teaching German as a foreign language. The paper is based on the researcher’s experience and expertise gained from teaching German across several colleges, particularly subjects of Arabic/German syntax, contrastive linguistics and translation. Comparative sentences are defined and clarified in terms of functions and forms, along with an explanation and classification of lexicographic means. The paper addresses certain difficulties faced by learners of the German language in respect of the correct use of sentences, particularly in Arabic-German-Arabic translations.
